Description:
Equity is top of mind right now, and many educators are more committed than ever to working towards educational equity for students. But what does equity in math really mean, and what will it take to move toward, and ultimately achieve, this goal? Listen in to an honest and candid conversation with my friend and fellow educator, Vanna O’Conner, to hear how you can identify areas where inequities exist in your classroom, school, or district and how you can start to dismantle the systems that contribute to inequitable outcomes for students.
Summary & Highlights:
In this episode, Chrissy interviews Vanna O’Conner, a Director of Professional Learning at an educational nonprofit. Vanna is a former high school math teacher and current professional development provider, and in their conversation, she shares:
  • her personal experience as a math student and how that led her to becoming a math educator
  • how one teacher’s instructional approach and reflective practices positively impacted her
  • a description of educational equity that includes both instructional practices and equitable outcomes for students
  • the role data plays in identifying inequalities that exist for students in your classroom, school, or district
  • how teachers and leaders can use the data to begin dismantling inequitable systems
